The question I have chosen to base my “Writing as an Academic” paper on is Why do people drink alcohol when they are also viewing sporting events, whether live or on television. I know this doesn’t extend to every viewer of sporting events, but I do believe it involves quite a few of them. I would like to find out how long ago the two became intertwined. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was that way back in ancient times during the first Olympic events.
I haven’t been able to locate any articles yet. I just tried to use the Library thing that is online that was shown to us on Thursday. However it wouldn’t let me log in stating my username/password is invalid. Hopefully this is some type of an error, as I was able to log into Bronco web email without any difficulties. These are the same username/passwords right?
I’m not sure what type of research articles will work best, but my guess is some type of a study will definitely need to be used as a source for my work. Doing a quick check on some Google results, I found a few different papers that were written based on similar tangents of my main goal. It does look like college athletes drink more often than a regular college student and that sports fans drink more than non sports fans according to his research. It did also list a bunch of works cited as well. I will probably end up looking into some of the books/articles/etc that he used to write his paper. I also think that some interviews with a bartender or two couldn’t hurt. That way I could also gather some opinion based material.
I don’t really foresee any problems with the research side of things (other than if I cannot access the Library online on a regular basis). I think this is a topic that appears to be heavily researched as it is and I should have no problem finding some information on it. I guess the hardest part of my paper as well as everyone elses, will be the ability to write it in our own words. I don't know how easy or hard this will be, but I am looking forward to finding out.

Yes, your bronco username and password are the same for the library. Absolutely keep trying with this, and if it doesn't work, call the Broncoweb help number (426-4357). You'll want to be able to access academic databases for the reasons discussed in the research modules and in class--we'll keep talking about this.
Your question is really interesting--why do alcohol and watching sports so often go together. You may not find *direct* answers to your question (although you might--it'll take digging), but you'll find lots of research on drinking behavior and the psychology of alcoholism and sports fans behaviors. All of this will help *inform* what YOU think about this!
