Unit 4 Start

Well, I guess I will continue the project in relation to alcohol and
sports viewing. The angle I will use will hopefully try to refrain from
the typical *alcohol is bad for you* type of campaign message. The
reason is I don*t think that alcohol is bad for you if used in
moderation. Some people (mainly the doctor or scientist variety)
believe that moderation is 2-3 drinks during one evening. Personally I
don*t feel that way. I believe moderation to be described as the
amount of times per week or per month you decide to get drunk.
Obviously alcohol, as with any substance, if you choose to do it daily
then it*s a big problem. But if you make the proper decisions (a
place to crash or a way to get home other than driving yourself) leading
up to an event, I think it*s perfectly ok to drink in excess of 5-15
(or whatever your personal limit may be) *drinks* for the evening.
Now will there obviously be effects on your body the next day? Yes.
But again if you don*t do it that often, you tend to be ok in the long
run, at least from my personal experience.

My target audience would be any student that is a fan of sports that
also likes to partake in drinking before; during and possibly after the
game they are watching. I want this project to be something that I can
have fun with while also delivering the message I want. The medium I
will use is the digital story. The rough draft I have in my head
involves some scrolling pictures of classic sporting events that have
gone awry due to fans that have had too much to drink. Maybe some
recorded comments from the participants after the events. But I would
also like to show some pictures of what I would consider responsible
partying. Matt Leinhart the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback
recently had a party at his house. His guest list included some
celebrities as well as quite a few college girls from nearby Arizona
State. The media as well as his head coach chastised him for the party.
I personally don*t think there is anything wrong with the situation,
unless a report of underage drinking turns out to be true. The only
problem was the fact that people decided to take pictures on their
camera phones and they spread to the Internet. Maybe he should decide
to take everyone*s cell phones as well as their keys the next time he
decides to have some fun at his residence.

Other than that, I really don*t know what else to do this project on.
So let me know if you think this will be acceptable as far as unit 4 is
concerned. I think I can do everything in a tasteful manner that will
have a legitimate message regarding both ends of the subject.

Yay--you got blogger to work!

I think your angle is really interesting--how to get college students to consider *moderation* in drinking. That's a huge problem, and I don't know whether others have tackled that or not.

This sounds great so far...
